Meletiadis Halva with no added sugar (400g)
sweet greek sesame paste
Anyone who has ever traveled to the Orient knows that confectionery is very common there. One of the most popular sweet treats is halva, a paste made from sesame and sugar that is very similar in taste and texture to our brittle. In Greece, too, every child knows and loves halva.
When we were at the fair in Athens we always tried it, albeit very small pieces, as normal halva naturally contains a lot of sugar. During discussions, we then repeatedly suggested whether it would not be possible to produce halva without sugar.
Nevertheless, in 2019 we were very surprised to actually find a halva made without added sugar. Small Greek food manufacturers are now very innovative and Meletiadis halva is indistinguishable from normal halva even without added sugar.
We were kindly given a 400g pack as a gift. We actually wanted to let friends try it too, but halva is so "addictive" that it was all gone by the time we got home.
Halva is also great for cooking and baking. As praline filling, cake decoration, on cookies. And it also tastes delicious on a piece of buttered bread! Most of the time we just eat it as a sweet treat.
